Workforce and Economic Development Programs

 

STEPS Commercial Business Lines employ adults with disabilities and provides transportation to work in two “green” lines of business with support from the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services.

The Recycling Center processes over 800 tons of material on an annual basis.

Secure Document Destruction shreds confidential documents for businesses and citizens and processes over 400 tons of paper each year.

Senior Community Services Employment Program The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides job training opportunities for seniors 55 and older. STEPS case managers place qualifying participants in training sites to gain skills to enhance employability. Individuals must fall within 125 percent of federal poverty guidelines or have a disability to qualify. The service area includes Amelia, Brunswick, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, and Prince Edward counties.

Workplace Supports assists TANF recipients to locate and sustain employment with the goal of exiting public assistance and reaching independence.  This program is funded through a grant with eight local Departments of Social Services.

Extended Employment Services (EES) and Long-Term Employment Services (LTESS) is funded by the Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) and acts as an employment site for our participants with disabilities.
